The school is situated just off North Main Street on the hill in Petersburg

Count on the Petersburg Vikings to be in the thick of the AA/A Region 2 fray year in and year out. The Vikings host the annual "Viking Smash" which serves as an annual AA/A region 2 duals format showcase.

Petersburg has crowned numerous state finalists and six state champs in its history, including Denny Moyers (1973, 138), Mark Geary (1976, 145), Nick Lahman (1996, 189), Dan Lahman (1999, 215), and Jackson Moomau (2017, 170; 2018, 195).
