I will be double checking this soon. However, I suspected it was going to be grim.

The line ups are constantly changing, but here is what I have thus far for AAA region 3:
106: 5
113: 2 <<<<<<<<
120: 4
126: 7
132: 6
138: 5
145: 6
152: 7
160: 6
170: 3 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
182: 5
195: 5
220: 5
285: 5
If we want to make Wrestling Great Again, then allow the B and C teamers to wrestle in the region. If they place, then let them go to the states. If they beat your A team wrestler at the state tournament, then too bad.

I'd like to see these numbers broken down with the A/AA divisions numbers too and see how many would be in each weight class around the state.
Wrestling B and C teamers will not make it better. Go to a single champion format. Take all the teams put them together and you have 24 team regions. Then take top 4 out of each region and life goes on the way it is.
Forget about A/AA and AAA divisions individually. Then you can have 3 team champions if you choose but only 1 State Champion. There is 1 varsity squad per school, period. There is something to be said for making the lineup. Yes there are JV athletes that cannot make their varsity lineups that could place high. That is unfortunate, but it is the reality of high school sports. How many gifted athletes in other sports sit the bench because they are not as good as the athlete in front of them.

Re: AAA Region 3 all 8 Teams reporting scores
Getting scores reported is the biggest challenge to figuring this up. I tried to do AA/A Region 2 and could only find team scores for Clay and Notre Dame and no evidence that Elkins and East Hardy have competed this year at all.
With those 4 teams excluded, here is what I came up with for AA/A Region 2.
106 - 6
113 - 5
120 - 8
126 - 7
132 - 7
138 - 10
145 - 11
152 - 8
160 - 8
170 - 9
182 - 7
195 - 9
220 - 7
285 - 11

Elkins had only one state tournament qualifier due back this season. East Hardy had zero. Based on the numbers you have provided, it looks like many wrestlers will have to actually wrestle and win a few matches in order to qualify for the state tournament. That is how it should be.

I agree that there should be only one varsity squad per school. However, when the state tournament is wrestled, many teams make the top 10 due to riding the results of 2-3 wrestlers only. This means that the other 11-12 team members may not have contributed any.
In many other sports, the bench warmers may get to go in and play during the playoffs and even the state championship game.
In the current state of affairs in West Virginia wrestling, being varsity does not hold the prestige that it might have held 20 to 60 years ago. Now for too many schools, being varsity means you went out for the team. You showed up.
This season there will be kids fail to make the state tournament because of their region. In the meantime, there will be kids in the same weight class qualify because their region is pitifully weak.
Also, we already have a few B teamers that have cleaned house in 1 or 2 tournaments. East Fairmont has two 106 pounders that without a doubt are in the top six. They might be the two best.
We are going to experience this season where kids are on the podium and they know in their own mind that they do NOT belong there. The is a B teamer that whipped them all over the place during the regular season. There is also another kid who clobbered them all over the mat, but he didn't make it out of his meat grinder region.
Last season there was a great deal of talk about a "state dual championship". We have it already. South vs Independence.
This season, the amount of forfeits and projected defaults(byes) in the state tournament have drawn more attention than the state dual championship. Team competition is becoming a joke. It is worse this season then last season. I say let the kids who want to wrestle........wrestle.
In conclusion, I have been meaning to give a shout out regarding your son winning the University Tournament. That was a big win.
