Cassucio - Uncrowned 4th Place Winner

Postby Bearhugger » Tue Feb 28, 2017 1:18 am

We have not had any discussions about JV being allowed to enter the regional tournaments in recent weeks. Now that the state tournament has concluded in AA/A, lets size up the top six at 106:

The top six were:

1. Hodges/Grafton
2. Spaulding/Ritchie County
3. Whorton/East Fairmont
4. Logston/Oak Glen
5. West/Oak Hill
6. Gibson/Bridgeport

East Fairmont's JV 106 Casuccio defeated 4th placer Logston twice(18-5 & 7-4) and defeated 5th placer West once(14-7). We have seen people talk about "The People's Champ", well, Cassucio is "The People's 4th Place Winner".

I hope East Fairmont does some strategic planning now, bulks some kids up and turns "Murderer's Row" into the "Fab Five".

Great job to all!!!!!
Holy smokes. Braxton Amos works out with a landmine now!!!!!!

Isn't it a little presumptive to assume that Cassucio would be the 4th place finisher just because he has previous wins over the 4th placer? States are far different from regular season wrestling. Kids show up pumped and ready to wrestle and often wrestle much harder and better than they do during regular season. Just take a look at how many unranked wrestlers placed to see proof of this.

After a season long campaign to create awareness of a select few top wrestlers who happen to also be JV, I wanted to show how their opponents did. The keyword here is "uncrowned".

As for how the unranked wrestlers did, I plan to do that analysis. Of course I am going to use the rankings BEFORE the regional tournaments whereas they reflect the entire season.
