A Simple Fix
Ok I'm new to posting on the site but I'm not new to wrestling I started in the sport about 40 years ago. I see everybody putting in suggestions on how to make a better region system. If you look at the WVSSAC there are 29 AAA schools 44 AA & 54 A. I know not all schools have teams but if you divide them into their 3 classes you get around 40+ teams per class. The cut off for AAA right now is 778+ AA 429+ A 0 to 428. Make the cut off for AAA 750+ AA 400+ A is everyone else. Make the school rating cut permanent and go back about every 3rd or 4th year to reevaluate the schools. Add one mat to the state tournament and run all 3 classes on 3 mats with 3 state champion teams it wouldn't take no more time. Keep all 4 regions but if you have 2 or more school in the same town & class move like Parkersburg does move one to the closest region if they wanted to. WV sports with 3 Championship Football,Baseball,Softball,Basketball B & G, Track B & G, Volleyball, Golf and I think Cross-Country. Why not Wrestling
Re: A Simple Fix
Here's why not. There are no byes in the state tournament of those sports. We currently have AAA teams giving up weight classes on a regular basis, let alone the holes all over AA and A. So...you suggest we take a state that has missing weights already and split them up in to yet an additional bracket...only to find more holes in those weights? To fill a competitive state tournament, why not throw them all together? Either take 32, or, like I want to see, go sectional, regional, state, and wrestle. An added weekend is an added chunk of cash for a school and WVSSAC. Plus, we get a legit champion that way. Just my two cents. You can still award AAA, AA, and A titles in that format.

If there are 11 teams added to AAA it would put more team in a region and I thx the weight classes would be full. I member when Parkersburg Catholic use to have a decent team a single A school but no more. With 3 individual classes I would think it would bring small school like that back and kids back to. In my eyes there will be more money with 3 classes 12 regions plus we may even grow the sport. Just my opinion
