I don't think that south will be bad. I say that they ll faily competive this year. They should send most their line up to Huntington, their region only has 7 teams in it and the top 4 in each weight class goes. I like those odds. It's all good

I wonder if this season will be the first to produce byes in the AAA state tournament. Seven teams per region. I hope all of them have at least 4 wrestlers in each weight class.

Funny guy Frank!

Let's just hope they meet up with Indy to see how "bad" they really are this year. Should be entertaining again if it happens. Do you have any pull?

Has anyone looked up and down an Indy vs South lineup for a "Mock score"?.

I think Indy has 8 placers returning from last years championship team. Depending on weights and where wrestlers are going to end up, could be a very interesting.

Indy has 9 placers and 11 qualifiers returning and South has 8 placers and 14 qualifiers returning.

It's hard to do a mock lineup this early because we don't know what weights everyone will be wrestling and who may be new in the lineups.

If they have to, hold the dual on Sunday after church and then everyone can eat a good, old fashion Methodist/Baptist meal afterward!

Gator I got no pull, if I did, south would have to come to the Coalfields to measure themselves against Indy. And as parent of a Indy wrestler, I would love to see it. The match up could put my son up against one of the best wrestlers in the state. I don't know if my son could win the match or not. But both he and I like the test. Gator If you got any pull, make the trip happen.

Frank, I've talked on here with Indyhart and last weekend with South's schedule maker, Dave Jeffrey, so hopefully they can get it done.

Frank, as I recall, your son was Indy's 106 pounder last season. What weight is your son Tucker going to be this season?

My top 5 are 1. South 2. Huntington 3. P.H.S. 4. University 5. Saint Albans. As far as the South line up goes, I've heard Windland will at 106 again, Freshman Ian Irizarry at 113, Luke Martin at 120 or 126, Shamblin at 120, 126, or 132, Freshman Brayden Roberts at 120 or 126, Freshman Jake Martin at 120, 126 or 132, Landon Flinn at 132, T.J. Huffman at 138, Jarret Flinn at 145, Ryan Taylor at 152, Drew Dunbar at 160, Zane Hinzman at 152 or 160, T.J.Lambiotte at 170, Justin Allman at 182 or 195, Freshman sensation Braxton Amos at 195 or 220, Hunter Delong at 195 or 220, Garret Wolfe at 220 or 285 and Louden Haga at 285. The other top freshmen who won all most all of their matches last year will be M. Deem, S. Miller, C. Brayant, D. King and B. Hayton.

I say let all the B team wrestlers enter the REGIONAL tournaments. If they can win enough to QUALIFY for the state tournament, let them in. Wrestling is wrestling.

If some other team loses out on a few team points and finish 13th instead of 12th because their varsity wrestler lost to a B team wrestler..........does it really matter?

Does West Virginia want to promote the sport, create high school All-Americans and get more kids on college wrestling teams..................or do we want some team to finish 12th instead of 13th????????

What happens if Man High school gets 10 kids out for the team and they are all jammed in between 126 and 145? Getting them all into competition will help these 10 kids and help Man's program more than anything else.

Based on what I have seen in the scores of the middle school WSAZ, they let anybody in. Good format.

Obviously , unfortunately a few of those south kids mentioned won't make the starting lineup.

I understand that some schools are loaded with talent and it is sad that some good wrestlers have to remain on JV even though they could beat most varsity wrestlers from other schools. The problem with allowing JV to wrestle in regional and state competition is that the programs that are already winning now get an even greater advantage. We had a kid at my school last year who is now considered the greatest wrestler from his school because he won two matches at states. What a victory for the school and for the wrestler. It may not sound like much to people from the more powerful schools, but it made us very happy here. If JV were allowed to wrestle at Regionals, this would never have occurred. I think that we forget that not everyone wants to wrestle in college. Some wrestle for the camaraderie and enjoyment of head to head competition. I have even had kids come out in the junior and senior year to get ready for the armed forces. Now during season at tournaments and matches we let JV compete as much as possible (as it should be). You say you want to promote the sport of wrestling, but all that will happen is the strong will get stronger and the schools that are struggling to make it will be exterminated. If you believe that is what we need in WV then that is your opinion. If you are worried about the JV from the stronger schools, remember that they have one free move to another school district. I am interpreting your post as there was a known JV wrestler from another school within your school's region. If this JV wrestler would have entered the regional tournament, then there was a strong chance that your wrestler (who won two matches at the state tournament) would not have qualified. I respect your team's experience. You will see if it increases participation on your team this upcoming season. I hope it does.

As for the strong getting stronger, that has already happened in WV a long time ago.

I do believe that all of my dialogue, past and present, clearly says that all JV should be thrown into the regional tournament. Not just the good kids, all kids.

If this happened, then all JV wrestlers get another tournament to compete in each season. They have a shot to make the state tournament. Some might place.

My biggest concern is seeing byes in the AAA state tournament due to there not being enough wrestlers (4 or more) in a particular region and weight class. Seven wrestlers max per region in AAA is a joke. The bigger joke is that few weight classes will have 7 wrestlers.
