I don't think that Byrd at 106 is a huge dark horse pick. I saw him at MSAC, and he looked solid. He handled Haskins with ease in the finals. Physically strong for the weight class and moves well.

Region IV 106 will be interesting. Smith, Holt, Bowen, and Talbott all in the Top 10.

106 is a good class this year competition wise. There is no run away favorite like last year, everyone is right there with each other.

I said it in another thread and I'm a Ripley supporter but I think HInzman from PKB South at 152 in Region 1 is going to be my upset alert pick.

Region III at 126 watch out for Daniluks he beat Slack at MSAC and wrestled Atkins from St Albans into OT at MSAC and lost 3-1 he could be a spoiler.

Byrd from PHS looked much better than the rest of the field at MSAC.
I will make a bold prediction for the region 2 champ to make a lot of noise.
If Cabell Midlands McCormick returns, the 106 field could be fighting for 2nd.

not sure about McCormick at 106. He was a placer last year, and was a favorite to start the year. He has only wrestled like 12 matches all year, hasn't wrestled since before Jan 7th. With the competition so close in the class, that could be an issue for him. I guess that's why they wrestle the matches. I have seen Wood from JM a couple times this year and Smith from PP both look strong. Haskins from Ripley is also solid, and so is Bowen from Huntington... I saw him manhandle Holt from St. Albans at MSAC, and Holt is pretty good too. Talbott from Hurricane has been right there with all of them H2H.........so from top to bottom, it's a competitive class.

145, 152, 160, 170, and 195 in Region IV should be great to watch at Regionals as well. Should be very competitive to see who the top 4 are. 220 may have a dark horse sneak into the top 4 as well.

Depending on who wins the 126 pound wrestle off at Independence's wrestling room this week Hunter Taylor or Nathan McClaugherty would have a shot at a regional title if they were to beat Haegen Harvey in the wrestle off. I will add both kids beat #4 ranked Harvey in the Coalfield Conference Invitational two weekends ago. Whoever wins would have to then beat #2 Logan Robertson for a regional title but it will be interesting to see which gentleman is entered in the regional tournament.

Very interesting, I never caught that! It's always good to have competition in the practice room and it looks like Indy has plenty at 126.

This is a good example as to why the JV kids should be in the regionals.

I see a spoiler in region 3 who is strong enough and mean enough to take a #1 seed out.

I'll keep this kid a secret so he can do his thing.

I can see Carman 3 seed at 120 pulling off 2 upsets and winning Region I. Top 3 in region I are very closely matched.

I hope we have all kinds of upsets in all regions. This would make the state tournament a complete battle royal. Only the strongest will survive.

I want to get all I can from my cheap seat. Economics baby........economics.
