SCORE TABLE PROBLEMS SOLVED

WHY NOT LET A COUPLE OF THE ASSISTANT COACHES HELP OUT AT THE SCORE TABLE AND OR SOME OF THE B TEAM WRESTLERS. They have both been around wrestling most of their lives. They know the rules and the referee signals and the proper points for each signal. And don't let any table workers have their phone at the table, it's to much of a distraction.

I actually sat right behind the scorer's table at the South match and although sometimes it may be difficult for some to follow the fast scoring and awarding of points, I believe by far and away the major problem was the clock. This was not actually the fault of the person running the clock. I saw them repeatedly hitting the button and it would not work. Someone working there referred to there being a problem with the scoreboard control being formatted for basketball and being difficult to change it to wrestling (although I don't think that would explain a control button not working). I suggested we consider getting a separate set up just for wrestling if that is the case. I do agree to some extent the problem is knowledge of wrestling, attention, and being somewhat emotionally involved with the outcome of the match. I'm not sure if cell phones were an issue but I agree they should not be permitted at the table.

Coming from someone who is emotionally and lovingly involved in the South program, my daughter Heather Gates-Rusher, who teaches English at South and also volunteers her time to teach the young mat maids who have been running the scoring and clock during these matches, Kenny is correct that the scoring is set up for basketball and not for scoring wrestling matches. Heather can score a wrestling as well as anyone I've witnessed do it,(6 years as a mat maid herself) but it takes time to teach young women to be efficient in all that is involved. They are learning and some people either need to give them a break or volunteer your time to come down and do it yourself. Wanna bet YOU will get screamed at also?

Instead of sitting on the top bleacher and screaming across the gym at young girls, why don't some of you get involved?

And people wonder why you can't find volunteers to do work at wrestling matches.

Woody turned to the crowd and said it was a clock issue, not the operator. I also attended the South-Phs boys basketball game the following night. There was an issue with the clock and buzzer. The clock on the closed end of the ROAC was working as it should while the clock on the other end would seem to get stuck and skip several seconds as if it was trying to catch up with the other clock. As far as the buzzer goes it would get stuck for a few seconds.
