East Fairmont’s Murderer’s Row (expanded to five this season) went 9-1 against the two defending WV state champion teams last night.

Whereas AAA South and AA East Fairmont will not bump into each other again this season, I am going to focus on East Fairmont and Independence.

EF and Indy should meet again at the WSAZ. They could/should meet again at the depleted Williamstown tournament and then of course at the state tournament.

With this being said, the EF and Indy match ups from last night could happen THREE more times.

106: The “uncrowned 2017 4th place state tournament winner” Cassucio won via forfeit. Indy’s Sanders was out. This match up will happen possibly at the WSAZ.

113: 2017 state tournament 3rd place winner Blake Whorton won in SV1 over freshman Bryce Perdue. It doesn’t get any closer than this. Can we expect this possibly three more times? Will somebody take charge?

120: Three time finalist (2x champion) Cole Laya looked tougher than ever in defeating sophomore Sean Dawson (state tournament 5th in 2017) 9-0. I have never seen Laya look tougher, but I see Dawson closing the distance over possibly 2 to 3 more tries.

126: Three time finalist (2x champion) Brock Whorton defeated 2017 champion Liam Lusher 2 to 1. Whorton came out on top of a scramble with the first period takedown. Lusher rode Whorton for the whole second period. Lusher scored in the third with an escape. We have another close match up here.

132: Returning 132lb state champion Hunter Taylor made his 2017/2018 wrestling debut after recovering from shoulder surgery against EF’s Lane Flint. Flint (2017 state tournament 3rd place winner) looks like he has put in some work in the weight room and the kitchen in going from 113 to 132. Flint won 8-6.

There are many other very tough wrestlers out there from 106 through 132. Its going to be a good season.

I thought Brayden Roberts and Gavin Quiocho looked very good last night.
