AA/A Bear Tracks - January 3rd

Postby Bearhugger » Thu Jan 03, 2019 3:13 pm

AA/A BEAR TRACKS – JANUARY 3RD, 2019

Important points:
1. PLEASE COMMENT WHERE THERE ARE RANKING DISCREPANCIES. UNFORTUNATELY, NOT ALL SCHOOLS POST SCORES.
2. Last season’s state place winners were given higher rankings to begin this season. Until they get defeated, they stay in the top five.
3. If you see two wrestlers for the same school listed under the same weight class, that is because they are both noteworthy and their final weight classes and status are not known. In addition, they have also placed in tournaments.
4. Some wrestlers have moved into the top five due to recent success in winning tournaments or still being undefeated despite not beating a previously ranked wrestler.
5. If a wrestler has yet to wrestle or is temporarily out, they have been dropped to the “Pack”.
6. Wrestlers who place in their respective tournaments will get entered into the Pack first. Others will follow in due time.
7. As always, turn in your scores, input, private messages, etc.
8. IF YOU SEE any discrepancies, then please advise and corrections will be made.
9. Thank you to all that have contributed from all forms of social media.

Levi Brake went 8-1 at the National Guard Duals. He beat Mullins from Greenbriers East 5-2. He pinned Garrett from Wirt.

He also got career 100 win this weekend. I saw him wrestle once. A solid competitor that should be respected by his opponents.

He would be much easier to rank if North Marion posted their scores. I am sure after the Winner's Choice, the NM kids will shake up the rankings.

The good thing about the Winner's Choice and WSAZ, the results are no longer a secret. :)

Patterson at 195 was second in the state his freshman year. His ranking should be first above the Kump and Cook who placed third.

Agreed!

Chase Patterson's wrestling looked his best at NG Duals. Or let me be more clear, in my opinion, based on all the matches I have seen of Chase in three seasons, he looked his best at NGD.

Based on how I began doing these rankings on day 1, only last season's state place winners were used to get the ranking ball rolling.

Madonna's Garrett Cook won against Independence's Mason Kump in UTB. It doesn't get any closer than this.

Based on how the process works for this particular ranking, Cook will remain #1 for the rest of the season unless he gets defeated to a WV AA/A wrestler. I know, it is an unpopular system in this case.

However, all three of these top 195s were under the same roof at NGD and Patterson didn't get to wrestle either one. Here is where "opportunities" exist for future modifications.

Patterson and Kump will probably figure things out at the WSAZ. Once again at the Coal Fields and again at the region. I try to rank based on head to head as much as possible. Sometimes things have to be left as is for another 1-2 weeks in order for that to happen.

If Cook wants to win a state title, he will have to beat them both thanks to another system called the pill.
Holy smokes. Braxton Amos works out with a landmine now!!!!!!
