The AAA state tournament is now complete.
14 champions were crowned as follows by region:
Region 1: 0
Region 2: 2
Region 3: 3 (all from St. Albans)
Region 4: 9 or 64.29%
28 finalists are broken down by region:
Region 1: 4
Region 2: 2
Region 3: 6
Region 4: 16 or 57.14%
84 wrestlers made it to the podium. The regional breakdown is as follows:
Region 1: 24 or 28.57%
Region 2: 10 or 11.90%
Region 3: 14 or 16.67%
Region 4: 36 or 42.86%
The Top Five teams by region:
Region 1: 1
Region 2: 0
Region 3: 1
Region 4: 3 or 60%
The Top Ten teams by region:
Region 1: 2
Region 2: 1
Region 3: 2
Region 4: 5 or 50%
These season ending numbers collaborate what has been said all along:
1. The regions are significantly out of balance.
2. Region 4 is significantly stronger than the other regions.

Very good observation and stats; I would love to see something get changed for the future of this great sport and state!

It could be changed over night if the effort was there. I suggest everybody begins by writing an email to each member of the coaches committee. Wrestling is not tied, linked, married to any other sport in high school. There is no valid reason why wrestling's regional format has to be the same as any other sport.

Maybe I am old school but Huntington does not belong in the same region as South or PHS.
It does not change anything positive in doing this absurd changing of regions.
But then again anything WV High School wrestling does always different than what everyone does in the entire country.

Old school, new school.............it doesn't matter. School is about learning. It is time for something to be learned. The current regional alignment is bad.
