Bear Tracks is changing its format to better suit the actualities of WV High School Wrestling.

1 Regional rankings are being implemented. You better know where you stand in your region if you want to compete in the state tournament.

2 The state rankings have been whittled down to the TOP 6. Six place winners are awarded at the state tournament. Thus, we are narrowing the ranking down to the top six for the week ending Saturday, January 7th. Perhaps this will give many wrestlers a new perspective. We have over half of the season left to regroup and ramp up the work.

3 Bear Tracks will expand back to ranking the TOP 7 beginning January 8th. We will eventually grow back to the GREAT 8. Rankings as deep as the top 12 will continue behind the scenes. Feel free to contact me to see where your ranking is if you are not in the top 6.

4 As always, all feedback is wanted. REGARDING THE NEW REGIONAL RANKINGS, your input is definitely needed.

5 The regional rankings are being built by placing all of the state ranked wrestlers within their region. This process will continue by filling in with additional state ranked wrestlers from #7 to the end of a given weight class ranking range.

6 Once all state ranked wrestlers have filled in the spots in the regional rankings, we will then fill in the remaining regional ranking positions with the best-known wrestlers.

7 Bear Tracks criteria is being maintained. Flexibility will be added in the regional rankings to get all regional rankings to the TOP 4 or 5 in each weight class. Please look the regional rankings over and begin your case for who should be ranked that isn’t mentioned
Keep in mind that rankings do reflect what has happened thus far. If the history doesn’t reflect your goals, perhaps some changes are needed.

PS: Edition 3 of Bear Tracks will start coming out today, January 3rd, with the beginning of regional rankings implemented. Furthermore, the first weights classes communicated will be the ones with the NEW #1 RANKED WRESTLERS.
