Re: Sammie Henson no longer coach at WVU
Last year Flynn pulled his name from consideration from the Pitt job. In a published interview he stated it would be very very hard to leave EU. LOL, I know it’s a new year, but why would where he is close to legend status? I’d be thrilled with a Flynn hire.

Re: Sammie Henson no longer coach at WVU
LOL, aacoach61, make no mistake an AD that understands wrestling at its highest levels is a total plus. I totally understand title IX. I agree Flynn would be an outstanding choice. Is he interested or is he totally satisfied at EU? Certainly others are interested. Lyons, I’m sure will move quickly. ...

Re: Sammie Henson no longer coach at WVU
aaacoach61, may first post indicates I'm ready to move on. No shame in learning things so mistakes will not be repeated. I've said for several years we need to be competing with Sanderson in recruiting. Bring someone in who WILL do this.

Re: Sammie Henson no longer coach at WVU
Askren would be interesting. My worry here is recruiting experience. Hughes may well be good too. Let's see what interest this position brings. I want someone who can recruit against Sanderson from Penn State. He is getting most of the material.

Just like June 2, 2010, Tigers vs Indians------------Facing the Cleveland Indians, Galarraga retired the first 26 batters he faced, but his bid for a perfect game was ruined one out short when first base umpire Jim Joyce incorrectly ruled that Indians batter Jason Donald reached first base safely on...

If a kid qualified for the states with a losing record, so be it. He or she had a better tournament in the regionals or bye's helped out. So what.

Re: Coach of the year
Folks as Gator said the coaches vote on coach of the year. I don't know of any specific criteria. Most coaches will be candid in doing this. I know there are some instances where one personality will not vote for another, but with the group a good choice is usually made.

Re: State Tournament Wrestling Pill
LOL, I for one, maybe the only on, love the pill. It keep coaches from "running" from some people in seeding meetings. I've been in some meetings where it took 45 minutes of fighting and maneuvering to seed 4 wrestlers in one bracket. If I'm a coach, not getting extra pay for the battle, I...

Re: Any upsets in regionals?
Respectfully disagree. Luck played a part in Owings. Lucky he caught Gable on a down day. Taught him a lesson. Gable whooped him a couple of months later at Olympic Trials. The match may have been his plan, but luck hit him the right day. I won a few matches by luck in my day. The matches went as I ...

Re: Sportsmanship
Bearhugger is 100% correct. In a perfect world that is how it happens. But refs are people and coaches need a relationship with the officials so a respectful frank discussion can be had when needed. When calls are bad, sometimes a coach pushes the envelope. Good officials know how to handle this too.

Re: Hats?
Really, debating hats? Why would the officials at WC make such a request? Hats should be allowed, jeans should be allowed, running shoes should be allowed, heck hair pieces should be allowed too!!! How about jewelry(watches and rings on coaches)? Might that blind an official or a wrestler? Ha..........

Re: Question #5
Larry Owings beat Gable in Gable's only college loss, Gable's last college match an NCAA final. Then Gable beat him 7-1 in the Olympic trials. Gable gave up no points, I believe, in the Olympics. Certainly some JV wrestler should have a shot to have his moment in history too!!!

An under 18 year old is a minor. Parents should rule. Over 18, well, good luck with parental influence. Sometimes they listen, sometimes they don't and sometimes they just sneak. LOL

Re: South
Bearhugger is right on with this one. Don't worry about other states. Lead, do not follow. B team wrestlers would be good for the kids wrestling, for the crowds at the meet and a little boost for the finances of the host team. Kids need opportunity. We as a state, coaches and fans need to provide op...

Bearhugger, I'm on record in years past supporting the idea of letter B team wrestlers enter the regionals. It could be easily be done in any number of ways, including not letting them score team points. But as we know it could keep others from scoring points. I'm in favor of this, it increases comp...
