Re: Dutton Award - 2019
So the award doesn't exclusively consider seniors?... Finally an answer! Glad to know this moving forward. Hard to imagine Braxton not being a 2X winner, although, there are many young men climbing the national ranks in this particular age bracket. Hopefully this is symbolic of a cultural shift in t...

Re: Is this for real???
I'm saying the math is incorrect because whether he was down by 1, or he was down by 2- a TD was assumed to be necessary from a strategy standpoint. There's no way strategy can account for a stall call with that little time left. Counting on a judgment call isn't a strategy- it's wishful thinking, w...

Re: Is this for real???
Your math is simply wrong. Even assuming the score on the clock was correct the entire time, the gameplan would not have been different. Saying otherwise is making an excuse that undermines the hard fought match that both of those guys wrestled.

Re: Is this for real???
That's the thing though- Hart had a 2 point lead AFTER the scoring error. Then he was taken down. Now he has a 0 point lead on the board,. Both wrestlers are aware the score on the clock is 5-5 well into the third. Hart then escapes. Now the score on the clock is 6-5 Hart in the neutral position. Th...

Re: Is this for real???
Guard, it still doesn't hold weight for me. Wether he was down by 1 or down by 2, if a miraculous stall call with 2 seconds on the clock didn't send it to OT he was losing. Period. End of story. There is absolutely, positively, beyond a shadow of a doubt- no logical way Winfield thought they were in...

Re: Is this for real???
Matmanwv, to your point about wrestling differently based on the score, which is an argument I've heard several times in regard to this subject- the match going to OT in the first place was due to a (questionable) stalling call with 2 seconds left that Winfield had no way to know he was going to get...

Re: Mud slinging, objectivity, and understanding
Sure- I've known the guy for years. He's got an excellent heart. We all fly off the handle sometimes, but I also think sometimes we as adults and spectators feel the need to be judge, jury, and executioner when it simply isn't our place. I''m glad to hear that the aforementioned phenom was taking st...

Mud slinging, objectivity, and understanding
These are topics I think it's important to address in the wake of the wild weekend at Big Sandy Arena. Never in all of my year have I seen so many adults act so juvenile for one reason or another; in the same breath, I saw some calls on the mat that any wrestling fan- no matter where you're from sho...

Re: AA/A State Tournament PREDICTIONS
126 is going to be one heck of a weight class to watch. I also think people are overlooking what region 3 may bring to the table at 160, Warden looks hot here at the end of the season and the fellas he shares a region with are right there with him. Should be an exciting weight class to watch. Gamon ...

Re: Coalfield 138
I saw a quote reading "coincidence or something else" and at the tournament there were lots of concerned fans who's concern was close to devolving into disdain for an innocent wrestler, I was just tying to make a statement on his behalf in the event that discussion on this forum were to de...

To clarify, the 3rd wrestler involved that I mentioned was not a 138, but another elbow Injury at 106.

Re: Coalfield 138
Three freak incidents in one tournament. I can assure anyone that is the extent of the incidents, it's very sad on behalf of all involved, but let's please refrain from making any indictments about Bluefields wrestler, he's a fine young man and he's put enough stress on his own shoulders over what h...

Re: The History of Cream
To be fair Region 1 had Parkersburg and South the last several years, and Point Pleasant put a few guys on top of the podium the last several years from Region 4 AAA. Reclassification took a Shady Spring state champ away from Region 3 as well. Realignment Also somewhat skews these findings. Prior to...

Re: Congratulations to Tanner Harris four 100 win
Congrats to a tough young man. and let's take a moment to appreciate what a well managed match this Tanner had in the finals, very clever match mangment and a beautiful high crotch to win it at the end! Next time he's got to be weary of those underhooks or practice some Greco-Roman and utilize a dou...

Lusher-Miller
I took the time to write this synopsis on the match on another thread only for it to be locked by the time I posted it, and I didn't want it to go to waste, so for those who didn't catch it here's my account of what went down. Miller Scored the first TD, then I believe there were a couple of reversa...

Seeding criteria has returning WSAZ placer as criteria, perhaps this rolls over from Middle school? Dawson was a WSAZ champion as an 8th grader last year.

Re: WSAZ Seeds and Entries
Woops, I forget he's 145 now- But Gibson got the 2nd seed now, so no need to- but to be fair I think Gibson and Humphreys are a notch above the rest of that field for the most part..... The John Hardin kid is a 2016 Nationals All-American. Not sure I would start looking to the finals for a Conner a...

Re: Bluefield
Trigg is one heck of an athlete, certainly, and he will definitely shake things up in Huntington, but if Bluefield wants to be on the wrestling map they will need the help of feeder programs which are literally nonexistent in Mercer county. Also, let's not forget a Bluefield team from 4 years ago t...

Re: WSAZ Seeds and Entries
I just noticed Connor Gibson seeded 4th at 138 behind two out of state fellows. I believe if I were him I'd give up my seed in hopes of landing in the bottom half of the bracket away from Humphreys, at least until the finals.

That's awesome!! Keep involved in the community and be ever-vigilant in lobbying for administrative support!! Let's not just let this fizzle out, keep it up guys!! Good luck in competition and good luck expanding, and once again, great news for the WV wrestling community!!
