Re: Rules interpreter
We've been told by the WVSSAC that the head official's explanation for why he didn't take more time to check the make sure the score was correct was because the Winfield coach kept adamantly insisting that the score was correct and that wrestling be restarted immediately. That's the official explana...

Re: Rules interpreter
Jeremy Callen laughed in my brother's face, while other officials around him including the head official for the match made sarcastic comments to him, when he insisted that his protest be properly heard after the 160-pound match. When Jeremy Tincher from Greenbrier West tried to intervene, his respo...

Re: Alex Hart
For the record, the takedown that was scored to make the match 5-1 came with about ten seconds left in the second period as the tapper is coming on to the mat. As a coach, you would normally look at the scoreboard to see how much time you had to get off bottom and you would be coaching your guy hard...

Re: Alex Hart
There is more to it than just a simple scoring error. There's a back story about this referee being on the mat for this match. Out of my great respect for Dr. Miller and the rules of his forum, I posted it on Facebook on W.V. on Mat. This isn't the typical situation regarding correction of errors. I...

Re: State Tournament Wrestling Pill
KDunbar, your percentage for the pill on putting the best two wrestlers on the same side of the bracket are a little off. There is a 33% chance of the two best wrestlers being on the same side of the bracket if they are in different regions. If the two best wrestlers are in the same region, they are...

Re: Attention Coach Mike Cochran
Brent, I use The Wrestling Tourney and I'm not wild about it either. It's pretty clunky in places. What do you use or what program have you found that's better? I guess at some point I'm going to have to give Track or FloArena a try, but, having lived through a regional where we lost power and had t...

Re: Seeding Criteria - WSAZ
No. High school accomplishments. Freshmen won’t be seeded under criteria 3-6 because they couldn’t have participated in those tournaments last season (leaving aside the possibility of a KY freshman having wrestled varsity as an eighth grader). They just have to work through the other criteria to see...

That win over Steve Humphreys was one of five WSAZ titles Jeremy Hart won in six tries. Lost a one-point match in the final his sophomore year.

Also mistaken in your belief that AA coaches, like Coach Courtney, vote on AAA awards, like Coach of the Year, at the state tournament.

Matcoach, I saw that that freshman heavyweight state wrestling champ was also a first-team all-state football player as a sophomore. That’s a lot to accomplish in two years. Guess you can do both well if you work hard enough at it and have the talent. Word on the street is that we will get the top t...

Re: AAA,AA,A Team Rankings
If there was one thought I could banish from everyone's head, it is "duals mean nothing". I think it's really harmful to the sport of wrestling. Duals are the most exciting format the sport has. They don't last all day which means more people are willing to come watch them. They require pa...

Re: WVU/VT
I had heard that Jake Smith had to wrestle a certain number of matches (17 was the number I was told) to qualify for the NCAA tournament. I assume that means qualify for an at-large berth as opposed to qualifying by winning a Big XII title. For that reason, I think he probably should be in the lineu...

The clinics will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The cost to attend the clinic is $40.00, and this will allow attendance at all sessio...

Coach,
We have some Cadet level kids who would be interested in wrestling in the Cadet Duals this summer. For some reason, I couldn't get my e-mail to you to go through so I sent you a a private message on here. Let me know if you need any other information.

Looking through the pairings, here are what I think are the best potential quarterfinal matchups at each weight in AA/A: 106 Noah Hodges vs. Blake Whorton 113 Lane Flint vs. Cole Cheuvront 120 Dylan Dennison vs. Caleb Lane 126 Jacob Spencer vs. Brock Whorton (state finals rematch) 132 Jamie Ward vs....

Crochog14 - Not that it matters, but a review of the records available on this site reveals that Mr. Frampton moved to 195 before the #1 wrestler in that weight class moved to 182. Actually, that wrestler dropped down for the PowerAde Christmas tournament in December. Looking at the results on here...

Change Rules on Dual Meets Counting as Weigh Ins
There has been a lot of discussion about ways to increase the number of wrestlers we have out every year, including ways we could change the rules to increase participation. I had a chance to talk to Coach Sarrett from Woodrow Wilson, who is on the rules committee, about it last night at the Raleigh...

Gator, Jacob will be up at 195 for the dual with South. He knows a match against Justin is going to be anything but easy, you don't get many opportunities for two three-time state champs to wrestle one another two weeks before their last state tournament. It should be a good dual. I hope you get to ...

Old Timer #1: Does Dalton Michael still wrestle for East Fairmont?
Old Timer #2: No ... Thank God.

Re: Team Ranking AA and A separately
There's going to be a Class A champion recognized this season at the state tournament. The purpose of a separate poll for those schools would be to encourage discussion and debate about which teams might win that honor. While how teams might fare in a dual meet might offer some insight, the state ch...
