Wrestles offs?
Wrestles offs?
Anyone know when they are? They streamed them last year on Instagram I think.

Not really surprised by Hogans struggles. All of his high level success I’ve seen has been in freestyle. Would have really liked to see Rune go against Cooley but I think they know how that goes.

Re: Wrestles offs?
Yeah, not sure you know what you’re talking about. Hogan was a state champ and was some hype with his signing. Conley and Cooley didn’t wrestle because of injuries. Had nothing to do with their competition in the room. I was a little surprised that Robins didn’t pick up the win over Bush, but Bush def looked bigger. Dowling clearly the top dog at 157. Shame someone with Hillegas’ talent can’t break the lineup, but as long as he’s happy to stay, will be a good practice partner.

Letsgooo is correct in saying that Hoke has had some success in freestyle wrestling. He had a pretty good finish and beat some pretty good guys in what I believe was the U.S. Open tournament last year. He is clearly a 184 pounder and needs more mat time to compete at this level. He held position good on his feet and was hard to score on, he struggled really bad from the bottom position. Ian Bush is definitely big for 184 and it's going to be a fight all year for that spot between him and Robin. There is not much separation between those two.
The biggest surprise for me was Mason Kernan. This kid is super tall for a 133 pounds and is really tough on top. The second biggest surprise was learning that Rune may not be the guy at 197 this year. I talked to a few people in the know and they said Cooley gets the best of Rune more than 50% of the time. The season is finally underway and is going to be fun.

In the state of Georgia. Not a strong hs wrestling state. Plus he didn’t win his state as a senior. I’m talking about having success in the biggest folk style tournaments which he hadn’t. Pretty sure his coming out party was Fargo which is freestyle. He was def fairly highly ranked ,Flo had him in the 50’s, Willie in the 90s or so, from that tourny.

Yeah I wasn’t sure Kernan could make 133. Wow hearing that about Rune is really surprising. He’s really good on top and in that mat and that’s where Cooley has struggled. Maybe he needs a rs I dunno. I also just don’t know how long he can make 197. He doesn’t have the biggest lower body which helps tho.
Why no Taylor? Still coming back off injury or what?

Flo has Robin ranked #24. Does this mean that Bush is now ranked #24?

Re: Wrestles offs?
I'm guessing if Dennis Robin is ranked 24 and Ian Bush beat him in wrestle offs, that would make Ian's ranking no lower than 23. Right? Don't get too caught up with this one match, Ian won with a takedown in the last 10 seconds. Although I did see improvement with Ian from last year, there is no separation with these two guys. This is spot will be determined by how well they do against other competition and not each other.
If you want to pay attention to the rankings, which is fun but not always accurate, then go to Wrestle Stat or Intermat. The guys at Flo know more about making content then they do about rankings, their rankings are not very good, in my opinion.

I have no dog in the fight but there is no reason to "beat around the BUSH" either. I am sure Robin and Bush probably will be a tough wrestle off situation every time they have the wrestle off. For now, Bush won. High publicized recruit Hulk Hogan came in third on the series. Nobody was talking about Bush before wrestle offs.

Re: Wrestles offs?
OK....I guess I don't get the point of that post. You seem offended that no one mentioned Ian's name to win the wrestle off. Up until now he has given me no reason to think that he was going to crack the starting lineup. Two years ago, he took his redshirt year while Anthony Carmen held the spot and last year, he was the back up to Dennis Robin. In those two years while he has not had terrible results, he has shown no sign of having that break out year either. This could be the year he puts his name on the map, or in the rankings. Whether he wins the spot or Dennis wins the spot, the season is underway, and it is going to be fun to watch. Good luck to not only Ian Bush but to the whole Mountaineer team.

I am not offended at all. The three year hex might be rearing its ugly head just like history has documented.
I am sure it will all be figured out.
Good luck to all.
